3.3.3. Removal and installation of engines with the automatic transmission

GENERAL INFORMATION

Prevention

The engine is removed from the car only with the transmission.


Removal is made in the same way, as well as removal of the engine with the manual transmission, except for the following distinctions.

Removal

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. By means of the lever remove spherical hinged connection of a cable from the selector lever. Take a bracket of fastening of a cable to a suspension bracket of installation of the transmission.
2. Track an electrical wiring from the multipurpose switch to the socket back. Separate the socket from an arm and separate it.
3. Disconnect a plait of wires in the big socket adjacent to the transmission cooling system.
4. Press cooling system hoses clips.
5. Remove both hoses of the cooling system from a cooler.
6. Disconnect the socket from the arm located above a cooler and remove it.
7. Disconnect the weight wire connecting the transmission to a body.
8. Remove the arm supporting hoses from the transmission.
9. Remove the socket from the converter of the drive of a speedometer and remove the RPM meter from a flywheel case.
10. Remove a starter.
11. Mark and switch-off other sockets connected with the transmission.

Separation of the transmission from the engine

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Install the power unit on the corresponding bars.
2. Turn the crankshaft for a bolt of fastening of a pulley of the crankshaft until in an opening of installation of a starter one of bolts of fastening of the hydrotransformer does not appear.
3. Unscrew a bolt of fastening of the hydrotransformer and, turning the crankshaft, unscrew two remained bolts of fastening of the hydrotransformer.
4. Unscrew bolts of fastening of a case of the transmission to the engine.
5. Shift the transmission from the engine and insert a bolt with a washer through a RPM meter opening into a flywheel case to keep the hydrotransformer on the transmission.

Preparation for installation

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. For preparation for installation it is necessary to manufacture the simple tool to level the hydrotransformer with a drive plate. The tool represents a bolt of fastening of the hydrotransformer, only big length, with the cut-off head and with a groove under the screw-driver on the end.
2. Turn the engine crankshaft so that one of openings of fastening of the hydrotransformer was combined with an opening for installation of a starter. Screw up the tool in one of openings of fastening of the hydrotransformer. Turn the hydrotransformer so that the instrument of alignment was installed in the correct situation concerning an opening for installation of a starter. Since the transmission is installed, the instrument of alignment will pass through an opening under a fastening bolt in a plate of the drive and through an opening of installation of a starter. This tool then can be unscrewed by the screw-driver, and on its place the first bolt of fastening of the hydrotransformer can be established.
3. Check that the directing pins are installed in the block of cylinders of the engine or a case of the transmission.

Connection of the transmission with the engine

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Installation is made in the sequence, the return to removal. At the same time it must be kept in mind the next moments:
      – install the transmission in such situation that the instrument of alignment passed through a plate of the drive and an opening for installation of a starter;
      – take a bolt from a RPM meter opening;
      – after screwing up of the transmission to the engine remove the instrument of alignment and screw in the first bolt of fastening of the hydrotransformer.
2. Turn the crankshaft and screw in the remained two bolts.

Installation

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Establish a starter and screw bolts.
2. Install the power unit in a motor compartment of the car.
3. Further installation is made in the sequence, the return to removal.
